Providing Humanitarian Assistance and Promoting Peace throughout the World
The Coalition of Hope Global is the international affiliate of the Coalition of Hope Foundation (COH), a US-based, not-for-profit public charity, based in Palm Beach, Florida USA. Established in 2005 as a humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) organization. The COH enterprise collectively provides substantive support to victims of catastrophic events on an international basis and is comprised of experienced senior leaders from a range of countries with expansive political, business, educational, military, philanthropic and governmental backgrounds. We are a coalition-based, non-governmental entity that promotes global humanitarian assistance as an apolitical, non-denominational organization. The COH Foundation website may be viewed at www.coalitionofhope.org.
Project: COH Excelsior
Among our goals for 2022, COH seeks to establish an innovative Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief (HADR) coalition in conjunction with the United States and other interested nations in support of ship-based platforms that are specifically engineered and staffed to respond to catastrophic occurrence; we refer to this initiative as “COH Excelsior.” This public-private coalition will respond to unforeseen catastrophic events faster and better equipped than any other military or civilian element in existence. There is an immediate need for such capacity and it is estimated that the initiative will benefit upwards of 20 million lives per vessel.
The cruise ship rendered above is for illustration purposes only. The actual ship to be acquired and converted has not yet been selected.
In the aftermath of a natural disaster, COH will be able to rapidly establish scalable logistics, emergency supplies and expeditionary sea-based medical capability afloat and ashore. COH will act in coordination with a variety of coalition-based organizations and non-aligned countries in order to augment existing humanitarian support relationships and structure.
COH has recently completed a US Government review of our plans as part of the United States 2021 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) legislative process. Our intent in 2022 is to re-engage the NDAA process in order to receive from the US Department of Defense, two former U.S. naval vessels (Tarawa-class LHA’s). These ships, in conjunction with the acquisition of a civilian cruise ship to be repurposed as an afloat medical & logistical platform, will revolutionize emergency care and disaster relief in times of catastrophic event.
Disaster Response
In the aftermath of a natural disaster, COH will be able to rapidly establish scalable logistics, emergency supplies and expeditionary sea-based medical capability afloat and ashore.
COH will act in coordination with a variety of coalition-based organizations and non-aligned countries in order to augment existing humanitarian support relationships and structure.
Cost-Effective
The project is designed to be predominantly funded by coalition partners and is conceived by COH to be an inclusive coalition open to all. As a result of this approach and Host Nation support, inherent (civil) force protection concerns are minimized during international missions. All COH ships will function as secure facilities for the housing of emergency relief personnel, patients, international media, advisors and official dignitaries. The vessels themselves will provide reliable electrical power sources, desperately needed fuel storage capacity and water desalination plants for use by those ashore. The ships will be staffed by merchant mariners, an array of coalition COH medical and research personnel, and others in support of joint, international relief efforts.
Diplomatically Inclusive
The project provides a valuable tool in support of various peace initiatives by actively engaging a variety of nations in leadership and operational roles.
High Visibility
Global initiatives have the potential to capture the attention of history. With Project Excelsior, the visionary leaders involved will be remembered for establishing a sea-borne force capable of carrying out humanitarian missions with efficacy unseen in history.
